Searls Library closed for at least a month

The Searls Historical Library in Nevada City will be closed for at least a month, as repair crews discovered damage to its floors is more extensive than first thought.

Termite damage was discovered during the work that began last week. Treatment of the building and repair of the damage will cost at least $3,000, said Paul Hinshelwood, president of the Nevada County Historical Society. The society owns the building, which dates from 1872.

Hinshelwood said Thursday the financially pressed society needs donations for the repairs. Donors can call him at 272-1743.
