Dr. and Mrs. Austin Sawvell (nee Phyllis Louise Fritsch) celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary recently. They were married Aug. 3, 1952, in Detroit.

About 150 guests attended the anniversary party presented by the Sawvells’ daughters on Aug. 4 at the Nevada City Elks Lodge.

The Sawvells’ children are Dr. Beverly Kae Sturges of Davis and Patrice Louise Osborne of Albuquerque, N.M. There are seven grandchildren.

Dr. Sawvell is a retired physician-anesthesiologist. His interests include volunteering, restoring old cars and aircraft, photography and travel. He is a member of Nevada City Rotary, Nevada City Elks, the Lutz Center Board of Directors, Presidents’ Circle and Andrews University. He is an elder in the Grass Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Sawvell is a retired registered nurse and professor of nursing. Her interests include volunteering, quilting, sewing, travel, Nevada City Inner Wheel and Interfaith Food Ministry. She is a deaconess of Grass Valley SDA Church.

The Sawvells have lived in Nevada County for 22 years.
