Adults 55 or older are invited to share their time and talents through the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. Accident, liability and excess auto insurance are provided; mileage reimbursement is available. Call RSVP at 271-0255 weekdays (9 a.m. to 1 p.m.) or stop by 471 Sutton Way, No. 202, in Grass Valley.

Work-day volunteer

Assist a local nonprofit to help young kids in crisis. Volunteers are needed for 1-4 hours during a March 18 workday. Help set up and serve lunch to other volunteers and help take inventory. Lunch is included.

Long Term Care Ombudsman

Become an advocate for residents in skilled nursing and assisted living facilities. Listen to and help resolve issues. Ombudsman needed to travel to Truckee and Loyalton twice a month. Training is provided and mileage reimbursed.

Respite and Companionship


Visitors needed to provide brief respite for caregivers. These would be social visits with persons coping with limited life-span illnesses. Visits would involve companionship and possible errand-running.

Volunteer driver

Help transport clients to and from out-of-town medical appointments. Flexible days and hours. Position requires use of your own vehicle, a clean DMV record, and proof of vehicle insurance.

Thrift store worker

Help is needed at a downtown Grass Valley thrift store. Proceeds from this store help cancer patients in our community.

Stage construction

Assistance is needed building a stage for a local theatre company. Volunteers should have carpentry experience and be able to lift heavy objects.

Book delivery person

A volunteer is needed to transport materials between local library branches. This is a flexible morning position. The volunteer needs to be able to lift 30 lbs. and be available at least three mornings a week.

Membership chairperson

Work from home reviewing new membership applications and keeping track of membership information.

Activities helper

Help with activities, such as bingo, arts and crafts, cooking, and low-function exercise. A volunteer who plays piano is also needed to accompany chapel services.

State Park volunteers

Training classes are now forming for state park volunteers. A wide variety of volunteer positions are available, including tour guides, gift shop sales, historic rose garden care, building and maintenance, blacksmithing and with a living history program. Training classes will begin in March.
