Adults 55 and older are invited to share their time and talents with Nevada County nonprofits, public agencies and schools. Accident, liability and excess auto insurance are provided, and mileage reimbursement is available, for people older than 55. If you are interested in any of the following positions, call RSVP at 271-0255 weekdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., or visit our office at 471 Sutton Way, Suite No. 202, in Grass Valley.

Literacy

An opportunity has been created in the Nevada City area for a 2008 half-time AmeriCorps member to work with the Nevada County Library Literacy Service. This volunteer position will play a major role in helping build our literacy programs by interacting with adults and families through community outreach and collaboration. While it is a volunteer position, there is a monthly living stipend, mileage is reimbursed and a generous education award provided.

HelpLine

Telephone information and assistance service seeks nonjudgmental and empathetic volunteers to give county health, social and other community service referrals on Friday afternoons from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Friendly Visitors

Friendly Visitors provide a social visit of an hour a week to Nevada County neighbors who have become isolated because they no longer drive or have lost a love one. We have a number of ladies waiting for visitors. If you enjoy current events or the arts, and would like to hear more about becoming a visitor, call Jackie at 271-0255.

Merchandising and sales

Help is needed receiving and sorting building materials. Assistance also is needed at the cash register. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. Shifts are about four hours in length.
