Roundabout won’t work

Regarding the proposed roundabout at Idaho/Maryland and East Main Street: Why is the city engineering department so enamored with roundabouts? They work well in Europe where the roundabouts occupy large tracts of land similar to freeway interchanges and have two lanes.

They do not work well in tight areas with a single lane – just watch the roundabout at Sierra College Drive and Robert Ross Drive when the heavy traffic is coming from mostly one direction. Drivers, for the most part, will not slow down and let cars coming from the lighter traveled direction into their lane of traffic.

Editor: Why not take an informal poll of the readers and see what they think of the proposed roundabout at the Idaho/Maryland East Main Street intersection?
