Rich men don’t die in battle

Jim Hightower wrote an interesting article about prominent men on the Chickenhawk list. Chickenhawks are hawks who avoided being in an actual war when they had the chance.

Our commander in chief and former Vice President Dan Quayle avoided the Vietnam war, thanks to family friends. A few other political hawks who avoided service were Trent Lott, Dick Cheney, John Ashcroft, Karl Rove, Tom Delay, Phil Graham …

Rush Limbaugh, George Will, Bill O’Reilly, Geraldo Rivera and Tony Snow are some media hawks who avoided the war.

It is interesting that none of these hawks have family members who will go to Iraq. The complete Chickenhawk list can be found at nhgazette.com/chickenhawk.

Most casualties of war will be ordinary young men and women in the military, plus Iraqi civilians. It may be worth the sacrifice if none of my grandchildren are involved. If we don’t topple Iraq, oil prices may rise to the point where we have to spend military money in developing alternate energy sources and the oil barons wouldn’t like that. The public may even have to make some sacrifices.

Aside: Before Saddam can send a missile 4000 miles with any accuracy, he must develop a missile that can hit an airplane at a few thousand feet. He has been trying to hit an American plane in the no-fly zone for the past 10 years with no success. Saddam may have heard of Hiroshima, which could be a factor in his actions toward us.

I probably should be influenced by the political fear being generated in Washington, but this isn’t my first Rodeo.
