RETIRED and SENIOR VOLUNTEERS

The Nevada County Volunteer Action Center matches the time and talents of volunteers with opportunities to help individuals and nonprofit organizations that provide human services. For information on the following positions or other volunteer jobs, call 272-5041, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., weekdays; or stop by 11743 Maltman Drive, Grass Valley.

Police patrol



Help with special events, do home vacation checks and foot and auto patrol. Must have a good driving record, valid license and the ability to stand and sit for long periods at a time.




Patient support

Provide respite for caregivers of terminally ill patients, companionship, errands, etc. Also needed are certified massage therapists, hairdressers and barbers.

Data entry

Enter data on Fridays for three hours.

Friendly visitor/telephone reassurance

Help someone who has become isolated due to the loss of a loved one or because they can no longer drive. Visitors and phone friends are carefully matched; ongoing training is provided. An hour a week or the time it takes to make a phone call. Call Joan at 271-0255.

Technology

lab aide

Must have a PC background and knowledge of Microsoft Office 2000 and Windows 98/2000 to work with high school students and teachers.

Public Authority Board

Applications are accepted for candidates to serve on the Public Authority Board. Should have a strong background in law, accounting, certified professional secretary, business and/or nonprofit boards. This board will assist in the distribution of funds for in-home support of daily living activities for seniors and disabled individuals.

Drivers

Transport clients to appointments, shopping, and other destinations locally. Also transport out of county medical trips. Use your own vehicle and be reimbursed for their mileage.
