Rethink assessment

In response to the writer who wants to post my name at the firehouse under a “Do Not Respond” sign: I was under the impression that we still live under a democracy in which we are able to express our opinions and vote openly and freely without fear of threats or repercussions. One of us is confused, and I believe I know which.

As a point of information, which may cause my name to get highlighted in red on this previous writer’s list, we should all be aware that there is also a very important part of this assessment that hasn’t been addressed. There are several school districts which will be assessed a fire fee if this ballot issue is passed. School districts, because of their status, have not been required to pay for protection up to this point.

I don’t believe it is the intention of the firefighters to cause more financial burden on our schools. I am of the opinion that this funding issue should be rethought, reworded and submitted to all the public for a traditional vote.
