Respect the social contract

So, about NH 2020 and the proliferation of illegal signs against it, some say they suspect that there aren’t too many folks in support of the program. I venture to suspect they’re wrong.

What seems more likely to me is that the supporters of NH 2020 (and many non-supporters) don’t erect illegal signs because they don’t like visual blight and they try to follow the law.

This debate isn’t about whether or not NH 2020 is a positive thing; it’s about the social contract we all abide by simply because we’re part of a community.

It’s an unfortunate fact of life that when you have people living in close proximity, you need rules to preserve a certain amount of common good. This isn’t the Old West any more. Your neighbor isn’t 50 miles away, and he or she is directly impacted by what you do.
