Rename property owners’ initiative to ‘adjustment’

I’m so excited about the “Property Owner’s Claim Reimbursement Process Initiative” (whereby the government (you and me) will have to pay our neighbor for “loss” of (some) use of his/her land due to government action), because the logical corollary is that landowners who benefit from government actions will have to pay the government (you and me) back.

Government creates a “scenic corridor” and restricts development? Properties adjoining the corridor, with their nice views, go up in value. The government’s “giving” to those folks, and they should pay for the increased value.

And if one guy’s land loses value but 10 people’s properties go up in value, think how much revenue that will bring the government (you and me).

Or, how about converting land from residential to commercial use, with attendant rise in value, another “giving” instead of a “taking?” We’ll be able to cut everyone’s taxes with this new revenue source.

One thing, though. Perhaps the initiative should be renamed the “Property Owner’s Claim Adjustment Process Initiative?”
