Religion at the fair

I was thrilled to be invited to the fair and its opening ceremony. I came with my wife and 2-year-old daughter to experience a day of community. I was fine with the prayer or blessing given by the priest from St. Patrick’s, until the end. With his mention of ” … our lord Jesus Christ,” my feeling of joy turned to one of rejection.

I am hurt that once again, in our society, it is assumed that everyone follows Christ. What of the Jews, Buddhists, and Muslims in our community, not to mention the myriad other religions and belief systems? Next year, if there is a compelling need to mention God, do so, but please refrain from embracing one religion over so many others.
