Regime change

Timing is everything; the Bush administration knows that all too well. The scheduled handover in Iraq was moved up for a few reasons. First, to take the spotlight away from “Farenheit 9/11,” which was going to be the lead story Monday. We’ve seen the spin doctors do this many times. They are expert manipulators. Look for an “October surprise,” where Rumsfeld will pull an Osama out of his hat.

The second reason was fear that resistance fighters would bomb the ceremony. Ultimately it was done in secret and Paul Bremer flew off into the sunset leaving our troops behind. Over 140,000 of our sons and daughters left behind in an Iraq limbo. Is the Interim Government in charge of our troops?

Now that the Iraqis are “free,” will they rise up against our troops who are there for “security?” How many more Americans will die? How many will die when Saddam loyalists try to free him? When will the debacle end? Quagmire much?

Regime change begins at home. Nov. 2, 2004, the end of an error.
