Recruits sought for civil grand jury

The recruiting process has begun for the 2003-04 Nevada County Civil Grand Jury.

Appointments occur in June, but the application process includes a screening and training course before judicial appointments are made.

“We have to go through quite a screening process,” said Dr. Austin Sawvell, a grand juror and member of the jury’s public relations committee.

Nevada County is allotted 19 grand jurors, who serve from July 1 through June 30. The jury’s function is to investigate city and county governments, tax-supported agencies and any agencies created by law.

Grand jury applicants must be 18 or older and a county resident for at least a year. For more information, call 265-1730 or check the jury’s Web site at http://www.civilgrandjury.com.
