Recent wars unjustifiable

When, oh, when will this country ever learn to mind its own business? When will we ever stop trying to bring the rest of the world into conformation with our glorious land? How many billions of dollars and American lives will we continue to sacrifice in an effort to show the world how perfect we are?

World War II was thrust upon us; we had to engage all our best efforts to preserve our freedom. That, however, is the last justifiable war we have fought. Yet, our nation’s leaders, past and present, seem adamantly determined to flex our muscles, to sacrifice American lives and dollars in the name of so-called “Democracy.” If there isn’t a war handy, they will think up one.

Korea. Desert Storm. Kuwait. Vietnam. Iraq. All were and are simply interference in matters where we didn’t and don’t belong. War is the greatest of all crimes, yet there is no aggressor who does not color his crime with the pretext of justice. (Voltaire) In 1888, then-president Benjamin Harrison truthfully stated, “We Americans have no commission from God to police the world.” Therefore, our present leaders must be mightier than God. But, who is to police the policemen?

Before you mark me down as a radical or a pacifist, let me assure you: I went to war for my country and spent six years in its service. Yes, I would go again in a minute – provided it was to defend against an enemy. I love my country, but quite frankly, I am beginning to fear its leadership. There, I said it. And one thing I fought for was the freedom to say it. Harry Truman said, “When one American – who has done nothing wrong – is forced by fear to shut his mind and close his mouth, then all Americans are in peril.”

Think on these things; examine your conscience. Then pray.
