Don’t miss exhibit
of fliers from 9/11
Nevada County residents and visitors here should take the opportunity to view the collection of fliers distributed by victim’s friends and family after the World Trade Center attack on Sept. 11, 2001. We missed going to “Ground Zero” on a recent trip to the East Coast and we did not miss the chance to see the local exhibit. It is a rare opportunity for our community to have this exhibition. You can express your condolences in their condolence book which will later be sent to the Smithsonian Institution Museum and placed in their archives. This exhibit may be seen at the Imaginarium in Nevada City until Dec. 22.
Apology in order for
Mardi Gras cartoon
In the Saturday “cartoon” of Mr. Crabb’s “It Takes a Village Idiot,” he pokes fun at Joe Cain Day reactions in our community.
Mr. Crabb is either the “idiot” he refers to or, worse, a bigot.
He ridicules Baptist values and implies that irresponsible, drunken behavior during Mardi Gras (read Joe Cain Day) is a “Catholic ritual.”
Shame on The Union for printing this ridiculous attempt at humor!
An apology is in order by The Union and Mr. Crabb to their Baptist and Catholic neighbors.
An ode against
burning of leaves
My eyes water, my throat hurts, I have a runny nose.
Most would think I have a cold, wouldn’t you suppose?
The fact is, I’m feeling great.
So, why not go outside? Why wait?
Piles of leaves and pine needles burn.
Oh, dear neighbors! When will you learn?
Chipping, mulch and compost
Is the best way to go.
Look up, Nevada County,
The sky will tell you so.
Behind this hanging smoke of gray,
Blue sky awaits us (so I pray).
