Readers support sales tax moves

In my position as executive director of the Nevada County Transportation Commission I am called upon to provide information regarding transportation projects and I cannot advocate for, or against, ballot measures. So I am sending this letter via my home computer as a citizen expressing my opinion regarding four transportation funding measures on the upcoming November ballot.

Proposition 1A reaffirms that the sales taxes on motor vehicle fuels are to be used for transportation and restricts the ability to loan them for other purposes.

Proposition 1B, is a general obligation bond that will provide $19.9 Billion for California’s transportation system. Yes, that is huge sum of money, but it is only a down payment on bringing our decaying state system back up to standard.

Measure S will give Nevada City sorely needed revenues to rehabilitate local streets and pedestrian facilities.

Measure T will provide the City of Grass Valley sufficient funds to fully construct the Dorsey Drive Interchange and additional funds for other improvements.

I support these propositions and measures as I believe they will help bring our transportation facilities to a level that California and Nevada County citizens need and expect. Please get informed about these measures and vote.

To Nevada City’s voters:

You elected me to make help make improvements in Nevada City. Now I ask you to give Nevada City the muscle needed to make those changes. I’m asking for your support of Measure S at the polls Tuesday. This slight increase in sales tax will provide the funds to fix our all of our streets and sidewalks. By law, the money can be used for no other purpose, please be sure to vote, and please vote yes on S.
