Higgins Diggins Lions Golf Tourney coming up: Dave Busby told me about this.
The tournament is at noon, Sept. 7, and Dave needs people to sign up now! You don’t have to be in the Lions to play, and the money raised by the service club goes right back into our own community. Dave said the fee is $100 per player, which includes a box lunch, 18 holes of golf and cart at Lake of the Pines Golf Course, and a steak/awards/raffle/dinner afterward at the Higgins Diggins Community Center. They also need a few more tee sponsors and some donations for the raffle. Anyone interested in playing – or helping in any way – can contact Dave at 268-8248 or e-mail email@example.com.
Dave came back to Nevada County in 2004 after almost 30 years in the Navy!
Drive-in visitor to Carol’s Recycled Paperbacks: Carol Galpin, owner of the business at 134 Joerschke in Grass Valley, said a car ran into her business on Friday, knocking a hole in her wall. She wants readers to know she will be closed so the repairs to the building can be made. “No one was hurt, but I was shaken,” Carol said. She said she’ll call when she can reopen, or you can try calling her shop at 274-9837.
Dive-in movie: The last one of the season is coming up, and Dawn Zydonis wants to get the word out that the theme this time is sports and the movie is “Little Big League.” The Nevada City Swimming Pool is where it’s happening, and kids ages 11-17 are invited for swimming, music, games, raffle prizes (donated by Kmart) and a movie. Past events have included a pie-eating contest and a marshmallow-eating contest. Questions? Call Dawn at 265-2496, ext. 129.
Christmas in July: Susan Escano, manager of the Food Bank Gift and Thrift Store, told me the store is having a huge blowout from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the store by the Cedar Ridge Y (13467 Colfax Highway).
Susan said, “Donations are down in both cash and food, and all money raised at this sale will purchase food for both our kids programs and our regular client base. Last month at the Grass Valley distribution center, we signed on – as new clients – a record 25 families. These families had at least four in each family, mostly young children.”
July 25 is just six months from Christmas Day. The store will be accepting food and cash donations during the big sale. Call Susan at 274-7037.
