Neighborly behavior: There have been a lot of comments on http://www.theunion.com recently about neighborly behavior. They stemmed from a letter someone wrote about his neighbor leaf-blowing early on a Sunday morning. So, what is neighborly behavior? We’ve had lots of discussion about barking dogs, which is obviously an issue. What about aggressive, off-leash dogs? What about hammering at 7 a.m. on the weekends? Listening to Led Zeppelin loudly at 2 a.m.? What does it take to be a good neighbor? And conversely, an annoying neighbor? Share your thoughts and I’ll print them!
Christmas in October: At least it will feel like it at Country Collectibles on Broad Street, when Peggy and Jim McConnaughay, owners, hold their 17th annual Holiday Open House! There will be 20 percent off on all Christmas Items during this special event, this weekend only.
KARE pies: What are you doing for dessert tonight? Or tomorrow night? Volunteers supporting the KARE Crisis Nursery will deliver a ready-to-bake frozen apple pie and a half gallon of quality vanilla ice cream, or a fresh homemade organic pumpkin pie and cream ready to whip to your door for $15. All proceeds go directly to child care for families under stress who have children at the Nursery. To order your dessert-for-a-good-cause, call 265-0693. Dr. Sarah Woerner is helping with this effort, which is sweet all the way around.
FIV-positive cat needs home: Anna Drummond of Pet Adoption League told me about this wonderful 5-year-old FIV positive short-haired blue tabby who’s looking for a lap to call his own. He’s a darling boy with a wonderful purrsonality! He purrs all the time and likes to snuggle more than anything. You might say he’s an affection-hound. He’s great with other cats and dogs. If anyone would be interested in adopting this sweetheart, they should call PAL at 273-7958.
Calendar Girls: Well, not exactly. They’re women – notable women of Nevada County, to be exact. Northern Mines Business and Professional Women are holding a reception this Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the GV Elk’s Lodge to unveil their 2007 calendars. The $12 cost will go toward scholarships for women; calendars are $8.95. Reservations are requested by calling Gail at 272-2141.
