Foreign Exchange Students: This was sent in by reader Marianna Greenberg. “I am your local coordinator for the Aspect Foundation exchange student program. A couple of weeks ago we looked at their Web site and were struck by a Norwegian girl that seemed a perfect fit for our family. The next thing I knew, and never being one to say no, we are not only going to host an exchange student for an academic year, but we are seeking host families to do the same. Aspect Foundation students hail from nearly 30 different countries but all share the same dream – to experience the American way of life. These students, who would arrive in August, are aged 15 to 18 and have a wide variety of interests and abilities. They are chosen on the basis of maturity, grades and language skills. Host families can be married or single, with or without children. Host families are responsible for providing room, board and a loving home environment for the student. In return, host families and exchange students learn about another culture firsthand and gain a second family for life! Potential host families can choose their own student by viewing student profiles on Aspect Foundation’s Web site at http://www.aspectfoundation.org. Nevada Union’s deadline is May 15 for families to make a commitment. Other area schools give a bit more time to make up one’s mind.”
Guns and Hoses: This is an upcoming golf tournament and Bill Drown will be mad if I don’t give you a head’s up that reservations are due May 14. The tourney will be July 1 at the Alta Sierra Country Club. It’s a benefit for the Nevada County Law Enforcement and Fire Protection Council, which is a nonprofit group that provides our police and fire personnel with “extras” that they may not be able to afford otherwise. Cost is $100 per player and $100 to sponsor a hole. Questions? Call 268-9015. Each player will receive a free Guns and Hoses hat, courtesy of Phil Ruble at Olympic Mortgage. Don’t golf? Just go for the dinner – only $25.
