Help Hospitality House: Sharon Davisson wanted to spread the word to readers of The Union. “The Grass Valley Friends Meeting (Quakers) is holding a huge yard sale Friday, June 2, and Saturday, June 3, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. There will be quality items at very low prices, including clothing, toys, kitchen supplies, furniture, luggage, books and much more! All proceeds go to support our local Hospitality House and also the Mulukuku Health Center in Nicaragua. The yard sale location is on Dog Bar Road (3 1/2 miles past McKnight Way) just before Alta Sierra Drive. Follow the signs!”
New barber in town: Todd Frei contacted me to introduce himself, so here goes. “I would like to introduce myself to the Grass Valley community. My name is Todd Frei and I recently purchased the Gentlemen’s Quarters barbershop at 110 W. Main St. New ownership begins today. Shop hours will be Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s important to stress the Saturday hours as the shop hasn’t been open on this day for quite a while. I plan on running a traditional shop. I specialize in regular tapers, tapers, flat tops, flat top boogies, fades, brush cuts, hi and tights and all traditional barber styles. I look forward to establishing a lifelong relationship with all customers, so bring in the kids.” Stop by and welcome Todd to town, readers!
Divine Spark needs help: This is the group run by Tomas Streicher, which does some work with Indian tribes but also offers free meals to the homeless in Nevada County. Tomas is now providing free meals every Sunday at noon at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City. He can use money, food donations, volunteers and some specific things like Ensure, for a homeless woman who has cancer. Tomas has really taken this project to heart, and in addition to the meals, he also provides a welcome social atmosphere. He’s looking for people who might have small jobs or part-time work for the people he feeds. Also, he’s wondering if there’s anywhere they can have access to a shower. If you can help in any way, contact Tomas at 265-2620.
