Curious about house on R&R Highway: This comes from reader Bernice Moody-Falk. “I … have a curiosity about a stately manor of a home set back off of a gated driveway on Rough and Ready Highway, just beyond the intersection of Bitney Springs, I think there is an Indian restaurant right there at that intersection. I pass this home each time I take that way into town, and while I do not want to intrude on anyone’s privacy, I cannot help but think there must be some history there, and am intrigued as to what it might be. The house is on the right, and looks to have been there awhile. Do you or your readers know anything about its origin?” Readers?
Cell phone rant: I almost got run off Brunswick Road the other day by a van and as I looked at the driver I saw she was on a cell phone and not paying attention to the road. Now, really, why must people be driving around while on the phone? I really don’t understand that at all! It’s hard enough to pay attention while you’re driving without talking on the phone! I know I must sound like a grouchy old coot to be ranting about this, but it seems silly to me to see people on the phone all the time. Why? If the conversations are like anything I hear from cell-phone talkers at Sac Airport (“Hi. What are you doing? I’m at the airport waiting for my plane. Uh huh.”) they hardly seem necessary. Do you really need to be talking while driving? Can’t it wait?
