Birthday card and more: This is from DeeDee at Postnet in the Glenbrook Basin. You know Postnet, right? When going to the post office (especially in Grass Valley!) is too much of a headache. Having grandchildren in Southern California and Kauai makes me somewhat of a regular there – especially holidays. Anyway, back to DeeDee’s note: “I had a birthday recently, and my favorite card was from my friend’s Golden Retriever named Ruby. The card had a golden on the front, and the caption read, ‘You are not getting older … the squirrels are just getting faster!’ Well, I did get a big kick out of it, and just wanted to share it with you. On another note, and this comes from the Scots-Scotch thing. My great grandfather Flavio Cavalli came from an Italian village in Switzerland, so does this make me Swiss-Italian or Italian-Swiss??? To stir things up, he married Kitty Finnegan, so where does the Irish part belong??? Ha!” Thanks DeeDee!
Tonight at Miners Foundry: Is a GREAT event that benefits the Nevada Union Fine Arts Department. There will be a silent auction of art, a dinner and entertainment. All day today you can check out the art at Miners Foundry and the dinner seating is at 6 p.m. Help our local kids and support the arts!
Party games for those over 50: These come from Readers’ Corner regular CRS of the broken e-mail – hand delivered, no less.
• Red Rover, Red Rover, the nurse says bend over
• Kick the Bucket
• Pin the Toupee on the Bald Guy
And, CRS says “It’s better to be over the hill than under the hill.”
March is Red Cross Month: Ned Russell, volunteer coordinator, wanted me to mention this fact, and also mention the contest they’re having. There is an ad for the contest every day in The Union with a quiz. People who submit correct answers to the quiz are eligible for an end-of month drawing. There are 89 prizes – one for each year Nevada County has had an American Red Cross chapter. Eighty-eight of the prizes are free CPR classes and one is a disaster supply kit. The Red Cross also has a display this month at the Rood Administrative Center highlighting some chapter activities over the many years they have been here. Ned can be reached at 272-3265.
What does love mean? This question was posed to children ages 4 to 8. Reader John Bohnert sent these in.
• “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen.” Bobby – age 7
• “If you want to learn to love better, you should start with a friend who you hate.” Nikka – age 6
Dixie Redfearn can be reached at 477-4238 or by email at email@example.com, or by fax at 477-4292.
