Words of wisdom: The following poem sharing “beauty tips” was written by Audrey Hepburn, and sent to me by reader Carolyn Michelsen. Evidently the poem was read at Hepburn’s funeral.
“For attractive lips, speak words of kindness.
For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people.
For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry.
For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day.
For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone.
People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed; never throw out anyone.
Remember, if you ever need a helping hand, you will find one at the end of each of your arms.
As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands; one for helping yourself, and the other for helping others.”
Don’t Roseville Grass Valley: More on the bumpersticker people are looking for. This came via e-mail from Eric Engles. “I understand you’ve received some inquiries about the ‘Don’t Roseville Grass Valley’ bumperstickers but don’t know where to direct people. The stickers are available from Grass Valley Neighbors: folks can send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with their request and mailing address, or call me at 273-3934. The Grass Valley Neighbors Web site (www.gvneighbors.org) has a photo of the bumpersticker and this same contact info. The stickers are free, but we ask that folks send us a $1 donation for each one to cover postage and printing. Thanks for passing along this information!”
Kids on religion: These were actual answers sent in by a reader that elementary school age kids at a religious school wrote in response to questions about the Bible. Spellings have been left “as is.”
• Adam and Eve were created from an apple tree. Noah’s wife was Joan of Ark. Noah built the ark and the animals came on in pears.
• Lot’s wife was a pillar of salt during the day, but a ball of fire during the night.
• The seventh commandment is thou shalt not admit adultery.
