The Union … on Sunday?! If you’re a subscriber, Readers’ Corner should be like an old friend who chats you up over the back fence. Every day can be different, but you can usually count on hearing in this space about a few things in Nevada County that are passed along by me from our readers. It isn’t anything like the Editorial Page – politics and controversy don’t rear their ugly heads in this space. Ms. Readers’ Corner tries her best to be apolitical and nondivisive and sometimes wishes she had more company in this highly political county. (Maybe the politics are karma to balance the fact we live in a gorgeous place with some of the nicest people on Earth?) Anyway, my role here as Readership Editor encompasses many different things. I edit most of our feature sections like Wellness, Outdoors, Food, Auto, Home and Garden and Equestrian. I also edit most of our free-lance writers and columnists. The non-editing part of my job deals with you – the reader. In addition to my daily column, I speak to groups and interface with readers to help them get information, find things in the paper, or however I can generally help.
WOW’s Ho, Ho, Ho: I’ll translate that. WOW is the Women of Worth thrift shop at the Brunswick/Cedar Ridge Y, and Ho, Ho, Ho is “Helping Out, Helping Others Holiday Outreach.” The recipients of this effort are those who cannot afford to buy their children presents and others who need help around the holidays. WOW’s owner Sandy, who has been doing this for three years now, needs helpers to be “Elves,” to collect donations, organize and wrap gifts, and deliver them to needy families. Sandy’s also looking for people, organizations, businesses or groups to adopt a family for Christmas. As for donations, WOW needs new unwrapped gifts, money, travel-size personal care items like shampoo, razors, toothpaste, soap, gift certificates, movie passes, baby care items, warm blankets, hats, scarves, etc. For more info, call Sandy at 274-7037.
