A dog’s life: I received a lovely letter from Lake Wildwood residents Norm and Charlotte Nelson in response to asking readers to tell me about their pets or children. In the photo, included here, Bogie is the springer spaniel at left and Niki is the white bundle of fur – a Havaneze. Here’s what Charlotte had to say about Niki: “She is Miss Personality and is the joy and delight of our home. There is not an hour that passes that she does not respond to us in enchanting ways. And when we return home from shopping, church, etc. – even stepping out into the yard for five minutes – she jumps, screams, runs, kisses, wiggles to show her delight in seeing us again. If you are lacking ‘love’ in your life, get a dog.” She said that Niki gets along great with Bogie and said they keep each other company. Isn’t that sweet? Pets enrich your life!
Did you win a quilt? Specifically, did you win one in Rough and Ready? A woman named Nina is looking for pictures of quilts won at Rough and Ready’s Secession Days or any quilt made by Lillian Blakely of Rough and Ready. She’s making a book and the photographs would be greatly appreciated. Nina can be contacted at 432-1641.
Just Mom sighting: Gina Gippner, who writes the Just Mom column that runs in The Union on alternate Tuesdays opposite Mike Drummond on Page A3, told me an amusing anecdote. She was getting coffee at a gas station early one morning on the day her column had run (with her picture) in the paper. There was another mom in line with her son. The son tapped mom on the shoulder and said, “Isn’t that the lady in the paper this morning?” The mom looked at Gina and said “Why yes, yes it is.” The boy looked back at Gina and then his mom and said, “She’s not that pretty. She looks like you do in the morning.” Trying to ease a fellow mom’s embarrassment, Gina told her, “It’s OK, I have three just like him.”
Bye-bye for a week: I’m spending the next week in Nevada County with three of the grandkids! (Think that will recharge my batteries?) My column will return Sept. 3. See you then!
