Ike’s in Nevada City: It’s amazing to me that so many people can misinterpret something – or maybe it’s just the small town grapevine at work, but one sentence in our Prospector arts section got a whole bunch of people riled up over nothing. Here is the sentence in question: “Ike and Adrienne Frazee are closing their Ike’s Quarter Cafe in Nevada City on Tuesdays to spend more time with their growing family.” Is that clear they’re closed only on Tuesdays? Evidently not. I spoke to Adrienne, who said people were asking all weekend about whether the restaurant is closing. NO. IKE’S IS NOT CLOSING. We’re sorry for any confusion that may have caused. Go to Ike’s every day – except Tuesday! Adrienne was very nice about it, but naturally upset her loyal customers would think she was closing. I hope this sets the record straight.
Schram’s Pond: Do you know there’s an amazing event venue on Gold Flat Road? Saturday night was the wedding of local woman Ali Vieira and her now-husband, Jason Metzler (Ali is the daughter of Monica Frohreich and the late Dave Vieira and the stepdaughter of Vicki Vieira and Rohi Frohreich.) Anyway, if you take Gold Flat around the bend just past Black Bart’s iron works, it’s a house on the left with a big meadow. But what you see once you’re on the property is spectacular! There is a huge pond, surrounded by paths and a large grassy meadow. There is an upper area that can accommodate hundreds of cars. This was a pretty large wedding (I’m guessing about 200 people). At night, there are twinkle lights to make it like a fantasy scene, complete with a dance floor. You can’t imagine a prettier scene. Ali and Jason were wonderful, taking great care to incorporate their various cultural heritages (Mexican, Chinese, Portuguese and German) into all aspects of the evening. I’ve probably driven by there a million times and never knew such an awesome place existed. It’s amazing how many new discoveries there are to be found in Nevada County. Anybody else have a secret place they just found out about?
