Excess dogs: Anna Drummond of the Pet Adoption League wants me to pass along the situation at the county animal shelter on McCourtney Road. She said they are overloaded with dogs, and the workers there are pretty stressed out because they don’t want to have to kill any of the animals. Suesan Larsen also sent me a similar message and noted that a dog is a great Nevada County Meltdown Challenge companion that always wants to go for a walk! So, if you want a friend who will love you unconditionally, think about adopting a dog. This just might be the perfect time. The shelter is open from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Call Cheryl Wicks for more information at 272-8833.

Meltdown update: Loraine Webb of Peace Center fame e-mailed me about her team, named the Bad Girls. Loraine calls herself a “hippy hippie” who didn’t substitute enough tofu and mung beans. I’ll quote from the next part of the e-mail: “I’m posing a conundrum: Since a primary law of physics states that matter and energy cannot be lost or destroyed, only transformed … Inquiring minds want to know … where will all this fat GO?” Also, see Page 1 for more details, but it mentions that the “Today” show is now Wednesday, and bring chairs to the Meltdown meeting tonight. Also, Pat Lane of Cedar Ridge told me that Maria’s restaurant in Grass Valley has a “light menu” they will supply on request. Good to know. I love all the little stories that are coming forward about the Meltdown. If you have one, call or e-mail me.
