More on our eagles

Kelli Thompson, of Cascade Shores, took a photo at her home of these clouds after a rainstorm in December 2006. The next day, this bald eagle flew across the same spot, and she melded the two images.

Aren’t computers amazing?

Kelli adds,

“My husband and daughter saw the bald eagle fly over our house again just four months ago. Truly spectacular. From what I’ve been told, the eagle nests at Cascade Shores.”

Centenarian to start on the next 100 years

If you’re feeling jaded with life, here’s a lesson you could learn from Nevada City resident Ben Becker about being up and perky.

Becker, who’s lived in the area for 22 years, recently celebrated his 100th birthday with two of his three daughters and a son-in-law at Shaw’s Top Floor Tea Room – his favorite eating place.

When asked what his plans were for the future, Becker said, “Start on the next 100 years tomorrow!”

Jewelry becomes clean water

We wrote a few weeks ago about Wendy Hartley, a Nevada City resident who is selling her mother’s collection of modern Native American jewelry to raise money for a water purification project in India.

It’s something that would have made her mom smile, Wendy says. So far, she has raised nearly $2,500!

Wendy is a busy gal. She recently returned from a two-week delegation to Israel and Palestine to learn more about the region. Delegates hope to deepen the understanding of folks here about the conflicts in the Holy Land. The tour was co-sponsored by Interfaith Peace-Builders and the American Friends Service Committee.
