Did You Go?

Museum Day had a great turn-out. The yearly event when local historical museums open their doors for free drew more than 1,100 visits two weekends ago, reports Dave Carter, who handles publicity for the museums.

“By far the most ever,” Dave adds.

If you haven’t been to the Firehouse No. 1 museum in Nevada City recently, check it out. They’ve spruced it up nicely.

Bike trail in PVHeads up, biking fans.

Folks in Penn Valley are discussing how to fund an extension of a bike trail linking Penn Valley businesses with Penn Valley Drive and Pleasant Valley Drive. County Supervisor Hank Weston will discuss grants at a community meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Chamber of Commerce office, 17500 Penn Valley Drive.

Memorial Day helpers

The moving Memorial Day ceremony at Grass Valley’s Memorial Park wouldn’t have been so nice without the help of the Boy Scouts from Troop 855 in Grass Valley.

Those pleasant boys and their parent leaders set up chairs and took them down afterward, set up the flags and a white cross (from the GV vets hall) behind the podium and handed out programs and big smiles to people as they arrived.

Other scouting groups were in attendance, including Boy Scouts Troop 21 from Grass Valley and several Cub Scouts from Pack 23, in Nevada City.

Joe Blaz, the American Legion post’s 1st vice commander and the MC for the ceremony, said all four of his sons participated in scouting, and two of them became Eagle Scouts. They also went on to serve in the Armed Forces.
