Rail service looks good

In the March 18 edition of The Union, there was a small AP news release that noted how California officials hope to extend the successful California Corridor rail service (which runs from Sacramento to Oakland) to Reno with stops in Soda Springs, Truckee, Auburn, and Colfax.

As the price of gasoline rises and our highways become more congested, I am sure many of us would welcome the option of being able to leave our cars in Colfax and travel to the Bay Area by rail, transferring to BART to get around the Bay Area, including to the Oakland or SFO airports.

The rail service could also be used to reach Sacramento, Reno, and even the ski slopes. In addition, it could be promoted as a way for people to visit our area without having to drive to get here.

I hope our elected officials and local business organizations will work together with the appropriate state agencies to make this a reality. It would be a step in the right direction to further enhance the quality of life in Nevada County.
