The group I volunteer for: The Center for the Arts.

What I do for the group: I’m the volunteer coordinator.

How I got involved: I always get involved with my community and this looked like the best place to do that. My son is a musician, and I came to the center when he was in second grade and I started volunteering.

Why I think this group’s work is important: Without the arts, we’d be stagnant and pretty dull. We need all the visual and performing arts to be a vital society and this has it all and the schools don’t have enough of it.

The best thing that ever happened to me on this volunteer job was: Every single time I’m there I feel connected and I have friends there.

The rewards I get from this volunteer job are: It’s very important for me to feel like I make a difference. It’s nice to know that I’m needed and I have the benefit of all those friendships. I’m a part of something I really believe in and something that’s bigger than what I could do by myself.

Other volunteer jobs I’ve done: I’ve always volunteered. I’m a KVMR broadcaster, I used to be a Camp Fire Girl Leader, and I’ve done benefit concerts.

I’ve lived in Nevada County: Just about eight years.

The most important job that faces us as a community is: I think this community has an important job of bringing in more diversity and reaching out to people of other cultures and some of the stuff at the Center for the Arts does that.

I think volunteerism is important because: Everybody needs to give to the community they’re part of, because they received from that community.
