The group I volunteer for: AnimalSave Thrift and Treasures.

What I do for the group: I’m working on my certificate in ironing and I sort and distribute used clothing.

How I got involved: I like animals, mostly cats, and volunteering is a community ethic and I thought I would like to join in. You just walk in the door here, volunteer and start working.

Why I think this group’s work is important: The object is to raise money for a no-kill animal shelter, and I believe in that goal. This place also offers foster care for cats and dogs so that they don’t get euthanized and the organization can find a home for them.

The best thing that ever happened to me on this volunteer job was: Pancake breakfast and two kittens I adopted for myself.

The rewards I get from this volunteer job are: It gets me out of the house and into the community and it’s being able to give a gift of one’s work.

Other volunteer jobs I’ve done: I delivered food for AIDS victims in San Francisco.

I’ve lived in Nevada County: Three years.

The most important job that faces us as a community is: Uncontrolled growth is a very important issue in all of California.

I think volunteerism is important because: A lot of work gets done for free and therefore the income is mostly profit for whatever it’s used for.
