Push growth to west

I have lived in Grass Valley for four years and have been following the letters and columns in The Union about the traffic congestion that has developed, and I can see the problems, partly caused by the lovely hills surrounding us.

I lived in Florida (Vero Beach) for 14 years, and they and other cities in Florida, e.g., Palm Beach, Melbourne, etc., had similar problems. The Ocean – so what happened: There is now a Palm Beach West, Vero Beach West, etc., where elegant stores are situated 20 minutes away. Why can’t Grass Valley expand in a similar way? Say, toward Marysville, past Penn Valley and before Beale Air Force Base. This would eliminate much of the traffic on Route 49, and you could leave that as it is with reinforced speed laws in the interim. Grass Valley would have its specialty shops as in Florida’s “old towns,” and they would thrive.

As you say, there are many retirees here, moving from L.A. and S.F. and from even farther away. We also need some condos for sale, where we would not have to worry about garden and yard upkeep, and please keep them on one floor.
