Mardi Gras festivities kicked off in Nevada City this week with the window contest. The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce awarded its grand prize to the Golden Eagle shop on Broad Street for its toy machine display, based on the movie, and this year’s theme, “Babes in Toyland.”

Second Time Around Furniture, located at 112 Argall Way, received the contest’s Excellence Award. The Seven Hills District store is owned by Kay Ryberg.

This is the third year in a row that Golden Eagle owner Kathy Torre has won the window contest. Her store, featuring an assortment of gifts, jewelry and art novella, is located at 308 Broad St.

This is the second year the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce hosted the Mardi Gras celebration. For more information about weekend activities, call 265-2692 or see Let’s Go on Page A2.
