Pregnant woman in fair condition after car hits tree Thursday

A pregnant woman was flown to an area hospital Thursday morning after the car she was riding in went off the road and hit a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Marshall Chapman, 26, of Auburn, was driving a 1989 Honda Accord west on Gartier Road at 5 a.m. The car reportedly left the road and hit a tree near the Bear River Bridge.

Joann Rey, 28, of Auburn, who is pregnant, was a passenger in the car. She was complaining of abdominal pain and also had seat belt marks across her abdomen, CHP officers said.

She was flown to Sutter Roseville hospital, where she was in fair condition Friday afternoon. The cause of the accident was still being investigated Friday.
