Postal workers will collect nonperishable food Thursday

Western Nevada County’s postal workers will collect nonperishable food items along their mail delivery routes Thursday during the 10th annual Postal Workers Food Drive.

Food will be collected in Lake Wildwood, Grass Valley, Rough and Ready, Penn Valley, North San Juan, Smartville, and Chicago Park for Interfaith Food Ministry, a Grass Valley organization that helps as many as 8,000 people a month.

A dozen volunteers from Economy Pest Control will collect food in Alta Sierra.

More than 100 volunteers will then sort, store, and pack the items at the ministry’s warehouse on Whiting Street.

Food-collection barrels will also be offered at post offices.
