Post Office problems

The traffic problems I read about regarding East Main and Bennett offer solutions which are band-aids at best, so I went to the Grass Valley post office and observed one real problem. Several people pulling into the parking lot came to a stop waiting for a front row parking space instead of going to the other spaces, causing traffic to back up along East Main. Also there’s only one handicapped parking space.

The drop box causes no congestion as it’s easy to go around those stopping there. Moving the post office would solve an immediate problem but the real problem is traffic on East Main which has one lane in each direction, fine 25 years ago.

Suppose the city approves the new housing projects totaling over 4,000 new homes and just 5 percent drive into town at any given time? Approving new projects gets instant revenues but in the long term costs the city like figuring out what to do with all the extra traffic.

Main Street cannot be widened to accommodate another lane and whoever reversed Church Street north added to the confusion as now both North Auburn and Church run the same way. Solution: curb the growth!
