Port sale poses threat

As a former Coast Guardsman and civilian steamship agent in the West Coast’s busiest port, I think the Bush administration has made a serious error in judgement.

The proposal to select an Arab company from the United Arab Emirates to control some of our ports is just plain wrong thinking. Have they forgotten that money laundering to fund the 9/11 attacks came from there, as did two of the terrorists?

Many people, both Republicans and Democrats, are wondering if this is a sound decision. Why this company? Why this country? Why now? We don’t know. And the reason we don’t know is that the Bush administration won’t tell us what the selection process was. Why not? That’s a good question.

Something smells fishy to me, and it’s not the harbor.
