Police blotter

Nevada County Sheriff’s Office

• At 9:53 a.m., a caller on Pasquale Road, in Cascade Shores, reported that there was a man walking up the road toward Nevada City, smashing mailboxes and breaking windows as he went. The man was also reportedly screaming. The caller said that the man was in his 20s, with dark hair. He was wearing a black jacket, white shirt and jeans.

Soon after the first report, a second caller said that his window had been smashed out with a rock that the suspect threw. A third caller, a Frito Lay delivery driver, said that the suspect jumped on the hood of his van and kicked the windshield in. A fourth caller said that the suspect vandalized her property, as well.

Acting on a tip from a friend of the suspect, deputies arrested Michael James Butler, 18, of Grass Valley, on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance and felony vandalism.

According to authorities, Butler was upset over a relationship.

• A caller at Bear River High School, on Magnolia Road, reported at 4:44 p.m. that five students were under the influence of alcohol or drugs, as evidenced by their smell and their actions.
