• A caller on John Muir Lane reported at 3:25 p.m. that she just found a handgun in her driveway. Deputies took the gun.

• At 8:28 p.m., a caller at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital reported that a man in the emergency room with a possible broken hand said he was injured while beating his dog. The man told doctors that after he was released from the hospital, he would go back to his Penn Valley home and kill the dog.

According to Nevada County Animal Control, the man was injured while trying to pull the dog away from a cat, which the dog was attacking. It was not a case of animal abuse, according to animal control, which killed the dog.

• A caller at Dave’s Auto, at 747 Zion St., reported at 8:50 a.m. that a vehicle had been stolen from the repair lot. The vehicle was a 1988 Jeep Cherokee Laredo, license plate number 2YLU218. The caller said the keys were left in the ignition.
