• A caller on the 11100 block of Terrace Oaks Lane reported at 1:16 p.m. that he had found a glass jar filled with screws, nails and metal pieces on his property. The caller said he thought it might be a bomb. Deputies went to the caller’s home, where they determined it was not a bomb, but just a jar filled with broken glass and urine.

• At 7:51 p.m., a caller at the Nevada County Airport reported that he had received a telephone call from the Rancho Murietta Flight Center and was told that a distress signal was coming from the Alta Sierra area. The exact location was unknown, and a sheriff’s sergeant drove out to Alta Sierra but could not find any evidence of a downed airplane.

According to law enforcement logs, the distress signal persisted for some time and then stopped transmitting. A Federal Aviation Administration spokesman said that the signal could have meant two things – that either someone accidentally turned on the distress signal and eventually turned it off, or that an aircraft crashed and the signal eventually went out. Because no airplanes were reported missing, the first theory was probably accurate.
