Grass Valley Police Department

Monday

• A 22-year-old Grass Valley man was arrested 45 minutes after allegedly robbing a downtown cafe of its tip jar and striking a cashier. Ivan Sigala reportedly walked into Sergio’s Caffe, on the 100 block of Mill Street, at 4 p.m. He asked the cashier for some tin foil, according to police, and the cashier went to get some.



When she returned, she noticed that the tip jar, containing about $20 in coins, had been emptied. She went outside and saw the robber and tried to grab his pants. He got away, striking her arm. Police arrested Sigala at 4:45 p.m. on the 300 block of Mill Street, and recovered most of the stolen money.

Monday

• At 4:42 p.m., a caller on the 11700 block of Squirrel Creek Road reported that six driveway solar-powered lights were stolen.

Tuesday

• Alta Sierra Elementary School, on the 16607 Alta Sierra Drive, was reported vandalized at 9:04 a.m. Several buildings and the playground had graffiti on them.

• At 11:29 a.m., a caller on the 11500 block of Forest View Drive reported that a Nate Beason campaign sign had been stolen from the property.
