Grass Valley Police Department


• At 1:19 p.m., a caller on Highway 174 near Empire Mine reported a man on the side of the road who was possibly carrying a handgun. The man had blond hair and was wearing black shorts. He was not wearing a shirt. Police were not able to find the man.

• At 4:10 p.m., a caller on the 500 block of Penstock Drive reported that a vehicle had been vandalized the previous night.

• A caller at Condon Park reported at 7:07 p.m. that two people offered to sell the caller’s 6-year-old daughter drugs.

Fire calls


• A 1Ú4-acre fire was reported at 6:33 a.m. near the intersection of Bitney Springs and Newton roads. Fire crews from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, Nevada County Consolidated, Grass Valley, Penn Valley, North San Juan and Smartville fire departments responded to the call. The blaze was contained by 6:52 a.m.
