Grass Valley Police Department Wednesday

• A concrete statue of a face was reported stolen at 10:42 a.m. on the 200 block of Hughes Road.

• At 12 p.m., a caller at Flyers on the 1000 block of Plaza Drive reported that someone who was buying fuel drove off with the gas nozzle in his fuel tank, causing damage.

• At 9 a.m., a caller on Lost Lake Road reported that someone had cut a lock to a gate and stolen several stove pipes.

• At 10:22 a.m., a caller on the 12500 block of Burma Road reported the theft of several irrigation pipes from the property.

• An 80-year-old woman apparently jumped out of a fourth-floor window at the Bret Harte Retirement Inn in downtown Grass Valley at about 6 a.m., killing herself.

Police were called to the scene at 6 a.m. and found the woman, Lyla Hoffman, lying outside the building.

According to Grass Valley police, there were no signs of foul play, inside or outside the building, making it an apparent suicide. Emergency personnel from Sierra Nevada Memorial District Hospital pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
