Pleasant Ridge continues to offer excellent education
We are extremely pleased that Pleasant Ridge Elementary School will continue to operate its outstanding instructional programs for kindergarten through fifth-grade students.
The Pleasant Ridge Union School District Board of Trustees made this important decision following many districtwide discussions, implementation of successful strategies for cost containment and enrollment enhancements and a full year of work on the part of the Districtwide Enrollment Focus Group.
The governing board took into consideration the impact of the possible closure of the school and made the decision to allow the school to continue to serve students now and in the future. This decision was made at the regular meeting of the trustees on June 3.
Pleasant Ridge Elementary School celebrated its 50th Year of Educational Excellence this year. A celebration for the entire community was held on April 19 and was attended by more than 650 guests.
Pleasant Ridge Elementary School has proven its excellence by demonstrating consistently high academic performance of all students, boasting a challenging, rigorous academic program, offering a myriad of specialized activities including technological experiences, vocal and instrumental music, visual and performing arts and physical education instruction with an incredibly high level of parental and community involvement.
One-hundred percent of Pleasant Ridge Elementary School teachers are “highly qualified” and have proven their instructional expertise for many years in the district. Students also receive direct support by instructional aides to enhance the high quality instruction throughout the school.
Additionally, Pleasant Ridge Elementary School continues to offer an array of student activities extending beyond the school day, including an afterschool recreation program and a variety of classes and workshops sponsored by a most successful partnership with the Bear River Recreation and Park District.
The Districtwide Enrollment Focus Group, created by the Pleasant Ridge Union School District Board of Trustees, worked diligently for over a year to focus upon effective marketing of school programs to enhance enrollment. This group was composed of highly involved parents and staff who worked through some very difficult issues throughout the year. Members of the group divided into subcommittees to study and develop strategies for cost containment and enrollment enhancements.
The 50th year celebration and the recommendation for a redesign of the district Web site were direct results of the fine work of this group. All members of the Districtwide Enrollment Focus Group are commended for their contributions.
The group will continue to meet in the 2008-09 school year, as they heartily believe that there continues to be a need for creative planning at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School and at all schools in the district. Our thanks and appreciation are certainly extended to each and every one of the members of the group!
We are also pleased to report that enrollment for next year’s kindergarten class at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School is exceptionally strong and represents unanticipated growth for the school. We are extremely excited to welcome our newest students as they begin their school experiences at Pleasant Ridge Elementary School beginning in August 2008.
