Playing politics with Schiavo

I recently received a message from JPA Acton Alert about the proposed cuts in Medicaid. Mr. Bush has just signed a law affecting the Terri Schiavo family. Medicaid currently pays the bills for her hospice care. This note was attached to the Action alert: “Seems a bit ironic that the Neocons make a spectacle of the unfortunate situation of Mrs. Schiavo while they slash the Medicaid budget. In Texas, then-governor Bush signed a state law – the 1999 Texas Advance Directives Act – that allows life support to be discontinued when there is no source to pay for it. I suppose if Mrs. Schiavo lived in Texas, there would have been no need for Congressional intervention.”

This government’s intervention into this woman’s right to die with dignity is causing untold pain and anguish to her family and is costing the taxpayers big bucks … enough to pay for a lot of health care for many people. Shame on the president and his cronies for using this as a political ploy.
