Pipeline story incomplete

Re: Banner Mountain pipeline:

The front-page story regarding the Nevada Irrigation District’s plan to install a 5 1/2-mile-long pipe, 4 to 5 feet in diameter, to carry water that now flows through the Cascade Canal is incomplete. How much will it cost? Why is it necessary? Earlier stories had some of this information; however, many readers probably did not read or missed earlier accounts. It is the responsibility of the reporter and editors to make sure all of the information is printed to round out the story. If the reporter does his job, readers do not have to play catch-up.

The recent NID revelation that a 40-foot wide swath must be cut through private property to plant the pipe was a shock to some of the property owners who will be affected. Some say they will not grant an easement. To this NID threatens to institute eminent domain proceedings. To put it another way: If you don’t do it our way, we will do it anyway. Eminent domain is confiscation plain and simple. Imagine for a moment if it were your property and someone wanted to bulldoze a 40-foot wide scar across it?
