Phone, ZIP code issues may be solved

Finally, under Case No. 02-06-010 with the California Public Utilities Commission, the problems with phone prefixes and long distance billing are being addressed! Nevada County’s complaint is due to be answered by the utility company, SBC Pacific Bell, any day now!

Another “concern” that is being relocated to front burner status is the ridiculous ZIP code shared by those in western Nevada County with the population of Yuba County. This, a situation that should have been ameliorated years ago when postal facilities were upgraded, and may get much needed attention now that population (people with brains) exists.

If you haven’t, it’s not too late to jump on the bandwagon and make your voice heard as you request a local prefix and ZIP code. After all, you live in Nevada County – don’t you want to be recognized there instead of in Yuba County?

Let’s all work for boundaries that follow county lines, not some artificial boundary set up to extract revenue. If you’re 639 or 95977 and living in Nevada County, help your neighbors win these battles!
