PE at Deer Creek

Last week an article appeared in The Union regarding the mini-marathon held at Deer Creek School. This event was used as a means to instill a love of fitness and healthy lifestyles.

While we greatly appreciate The Union including our event, I feel compelled to clarify a few points. The article led one to believe that until recently physical fitness was not a focus in our children’s curriculum. Nothing could be further from the truth. Here at Deer Creek, physical education has always been taken seriously. While many schools have cut PE classes due to budget constraints, our principal works diligently to keep these programs, and others, thriving.

I have the privilege of working each day with Janis Loveday, a PE teacher of 25 years at Deer Creek. Through those years Janis has continued to give our kids an excellent PE program. Her energy, positive attitude and innovative ideas continue to excite the kids and foster a love of activity, fun and health. Physical education is very much alive, and has been, for many years at Deer Creek, thanks to teachers like Janis Loveday and others who place strong emphasis on the importance of our children’s physical wellbeing.
