Pay the freight

Now we have a decision to make. Will we opt for a responsive fire department that effectively and efficiently performs its function? Or should we choose a department without adequate funding, hoping we may never need their services? Remember where you live. No one in our county is immune from a catastrophic fire.

The insurance underwriters know how well your fire department is equipped and trained. If you increase their risk by not supporting the funding necessary to do the job, they will simply increase your insurance premiums. I feel confident the premium increase will be more than the annual assessment increase. Or, they may choose to not renew your policy because the risk is too high. It has happened and is happening. Some underwriters will not write coverage in California.

So, if you want the load hauled, pay the freight!
